Mighty Minions

Description of Mighty Minions.  Beginner skaters.  Don’t have to know anything, we teach you everything.

Mighty Minions Experience

  • Team/group practices once per week, Sunday 10am – noon, at the Derby Depot [address].  Matches the home team calendar.
  • Practices run year round, in five 2-month sessions running January – December.
  • Practices involve safety basics, skate skills, team bonding activities, …
  • [Assessment / evaluation]  Skaters are given frequent opportunities to be evaluated for promotion up to the home team.
  • Games: A roller derby game is called a “bout.”  Bouts occur at the end of each 2-month session.
  • Minions participate in a non-contact group half-time demonstration of their skating skills at each bout.  Minions to not play in bouts.  
  • Travel:  Minions do not participate in tournaments, so there is no travel involved.
  • There is no cap on the number of skaters Minions.
  • Cost: Dues are $50 / month.  There is also an initial cost of purchasing gear [link].  The first two practices are free and we provide loaner gear for those practices.

Home Team

Description of home team.  

Home Team Experience

  • Team/group practices once per week, Sunday 10am – noon, at the Derby Depot [address].  See the home team calendar.

  • Practices involve drills, conditioning, scrimmages, team bonding activities,
  • [Assessment / evaluation]  Skaters can try out for the travel team each fall.  Skaters are not pressured to move up.
  • Games: A roller derby game is called a “bout.”  A double-header with a home team bouts and a travel team bout occurs at the end of each 2-month session.
  • Home team skaters play in all home team bouts and some travel team bouts, as determined by their coaches. [need to be clearer about bouts]
  • Home team skaters are guaranteed to play in at least one bout per session (play time is not equal).
  • Travel: The home team does not participate in tournaments, so there is no travel involved.
  • There is no cap on the number of home team skaters.

Travel Team

A*Salt is the primary travel team and participates in all home team bouts (double-headers) and local and travel tournaments.  The B*Salty , C teams.  Movement between A, B, and C teams is fluid and based skater interest and coach evaluations.  [Link documents]

Travel Team Experience

  • Team practices twice per week, Friday 6:54pm – 8:45pm, and Sunday 8am – noon, at the Derby Depot [address].  See the travel team calendar.
  • Practices run year round, in five 2-month sessions running January – December.
  • Practices involve drills, conditioning, scrimmages, team bonding activities,
  • [Assessment / evaluation]  Skaters meet with parents to be evaluated by coaches periodically…
  • The travel team plays in the double-header with a home team & travel team bouts at the end of each 2-month session.
  • Travel team skaters are guaranteed to play in at least one bout per session (play time is not equal).
  • Tournament participation is based on specific team:
    • (2-3) Local tournaments.  A, B and C teams participate.
    • (2-3) Travel tournaments.  A team plus select members of B and C teams.
